I’ve had my share of ups and downs this week. Specifically, my beloved ‘91 Mitsubishi Montero suffered auto-cardiac-arrest with a busted head gasket and we simply cannot afford to have it fixed. George and I are now sharing the “Rola”, our ‘91 Toyota Corolla, which is doable but not without some planning and scheduling. We’re going to make due with one vehicle during our last year here in the south and we’ve got plans to make things as easy as possible. We just hope our intentions work out.
On the flip side, I’ve had so much fun with photos this week! I got to hang out with Carrie and Tiffany for some special projects. I also downloaded Lightroom 2’s 30-day trial and I am quickly falling in love with it! Since the beginning, I’ve been editing pictures, one at a time, with Adobe 7.0. It’s old school but I know it inside and out and it’s been effective. But with more business comes less time and Lightroom is going to save me so much!
With that said, on to Sonia! What I love about Sonia is her humor and ability to make you feel empowered. Being a personal trainer really suits her because she doesn’t falter. She just keeps going. During out photoshoot, for example, I asked Sonia if she would scale this wet, gravely, slanted wall-thing. At first, it was tough to grip the ground with her shoes, but eventually, she climbed as far as she could. We both got filthy in the process but I loved every second of it!
Thanks for being awesome, Sonia. And kicking my butt into shape all these months!

Mini-tramps are essential. Period.

I love Sonia's pose. Like the trees, she stands her ground.

This is my shout out to JCrew.

Sonia's tribute to Jackie Warner with this black leather vest.

LOVE THIS.

My favorite.

I dunno, Sonia. You pull off "biker chick" pretty well. Maybe we should get you a Harley.

Flawless.

Today was the strangest weather day ever. It started out typical—bright, hot, humid—and exactly at 3:30pm, when I was supposed to meet up with friend and personal fitness trainer, Sonia, for her photoshoot, it was like a raging hurricane outside.
But!
Less than two hours later, the skies cleared and we were able to proceed with her “just because” session!
Sonia has been helping me get into shape for the last year and I must say, she does an incredibly thorough job… (cough)… And if that wasn’t enough, her totally rockin’ body is enough to keep any girl motivated.
Enjoy your sneaky-peaky, Sonia!

Whew! I can hardly handle this hotness.

I am super excited about this engagement photoshoot contest! And it seems you guys are too! In fact, both Jen Dalton (Chattanooga Wedding Times) and Lisa Huber (Knoxville Wedding Times) are talking it up on their sites and on Twitter!
If you’re wondering why I want to have a photoshoot at the Tennessee Aquarium, my answer isn’t all that extraordinary…
Just because!
I’ve seen pictures that were taken at an aquarium before and they always look so whimsical and romantic. Plus, the fantasy-like surroundings of an aquarium have always intrigued me. In fact, when I was little, when we played the “What if” games, I would always choose breathing under water over flying. I would so love to have that ability.
Here’s a sample image by Noah Hawthorne of Noah Hawthorne Photography, an amazing photographer based out of the San Francisco Bay area.

Do you get it now?! So why haven’t you submitted your story yet?! Let’s make this happen!

This last week has been kinda rough on me. If you follow me on Twitter, you should be well-informed of my disdain for my job at Starbucks right now. I treasure my days off like rare gems. Like most large companies, Starbucks is no exception to the effects of the economy. Cuts have been made and continue to be made, all while we, the “partners”, are being asked to pick up the slack, perform just as optimally and (magically!) maintain great customer service. It’s very stressful because I have always been someone who takes pride in my work and I feel like I’ve been forced to be someone who cuts corners, fudges my way through paperwork, and looks for ways to “just get through the day!”
I hate that type of person.
I miss loving my job.
But I am glad this won’t be my career. I daydream in bright colors and on special occasions, black and white. I itch for my camera when I’m running around the cafe, stained in milk and mocha spatters… I keep Starbucks around merely for the medical benefits.
One day, photography will sustain us and I can give the “Siren” my two-weeks notice.
On a lighter note, I’m finally going to post some pictures from one of my “sit-ins” with Carrie Workman! The following are from a shoot we did with “Cooper”, a golden retriever. If you know my history, interacting with a dog came very naturally and I was stoked with several of the pictures! These were all shot with my 50mm/1.4D lens (I didn’t have my 17-55 yet) and it really came in handy for when “Cooper” and I got up close and personal. He was a super sweet dog—mellow and friendly—and I really appreciated Carrie inviting me to take some pictures of him during her session!

What a go-lucky kinda guy!
Lest you forget, I’m still looking for submissions from engaged couples living in the southeast area to win a free photoshoot at the Tennessee Aquarium in downtown Chattanooga! Submit your story to carly@carlybish.com now!
