Julie | Cleveland, TN

Sometimes, I think about the fact this website—“carlybish.com”—started out as a means for writing. Since it began in November, 2001, I pursued writing like I pursue photography today. Although, I can truthfully say there’s just a little something different about how I feel about making photos… A way that makes me think this was always what I was supposed to do.

And to me, that’s cool.

When you’re a professional photographer, you meet certain people that make you think stuff like, “Gosh, I would love to take pictures of that girl,” or “Man, I wish I could capture that smile!” And both were thoughts I had when I met Julie. I mean, I’ll just come right out and say it–

I had a girl-crush.

I mean, it’s obvious that she’s kinda one of the sweetest people ever and then she lets that smile of hers loose and my knees go weak! So when she told me she’s graduating this spring with a degree in theater and needs to send headshots to different theater companies, I was eager (a little too eager, actually) to take her portrait!

These were taken a bit ago and with my Spread the Love workshop (which I’ll talk about soon!), my birthday, and my brother flying into town, I’m just now getting around to posting them. So finally, I give you the stunning…

Julie.

If you’re wondering why Julie seems to be laughing in so many of these, the simple answer is: I’m really just that funny! Of course, I also enjoy the “goofy face” photos because they are typical of any of my shoots. When things start to feel a little repetitive, I usually ask my friend (because I like to think of my clients as friends, duh!) to make a “monster” face, a “crazy” face or an “I’m pooping” face. Yup! I won’t hesitate to ask you, “Can you make a face like if you’re poopin’?” Because usually, the response is always a hearty laugh. And then my camera starts laughing too, but it’s laugh sounds more like, “Clickclickclickclickclickclickclick…”

Oh my gosh, you guys all think I’m nuts. And I don’t blame you. Ah well… Take me or leave me. 🙂
